In footwear design, EVA foam is also used for cushioning the shock absorbing area. It sits between the outsole and the insole and reduces the impact force during activities such as walking, running, or jumping, thus lowering the impact on the feet, ankles, and knees. Pillowed EVA, as it is known, is superlight which helps maintain the grade of the shoe while also ensuring comfort. Its cushioning properties partially compress under load and regain their shape, continuously counteracting structural collapse. The materials foamed have varying densities and offer softer more plushy cushioning for relaxed/fashion shoes while athletic shoes have more responsive and supportive midsoles, improving foot comfort and performance.
